Romeo Acosta, Jr., MD Dr. Acosta is the original founder of the Gulfcoast Institute of OBGYN and has been serving families in the Tampa region for over 23 years. He originally hails from Cuba and lived in New York state where he attended college and medical school. He completed his residency training in obstetrics and gynecology at Flushing Hopsital Medical Center. Soon after with his wife and young family he established himself in St. Petersburg, Florida. Dr. Acosta has a special interest in primary care of women, obstetrics, contraception, and minimally invasive in-office and robotic assisted surgery. He is an avid golfer and a big Notre Dame football fan.
Guillermo Calderon, MD, FACOG Dr. Calderon has been practicing in the St Petersburg for over 13 years. He is originally from Puerto Rico where he completed his medical school and OBGYN training. Dr Calderon's practice has an emphasis on the primary care of women, obstetrics, contraception, and minimally invasive in-office and robotic assisted surgery. In his spare time he loves to travel with his wife and children and he is an accomplished tennis player.
Emanuel Javate, MD FACOG Dr Javate was born in Chicago and lived in Northwest Indiana for most of his life. He attended Indiana University for his undergraduate degree and received his MD from the Indiana University School of Medicine. Dr Javate completed his OBGYN training in New Orleans at the LSU Health Sciences Center. In his practice he has a special interest in obstetrics, contraception, primary care, and minimally invasive in-office and robotic assisted surgery. Dr Javate enjoys movies and dining with his wife and two young daughters. He loves to walk his canine son named Ralphie. Dr Javate is an avid golfer.
Christy Shamas, MD Dr Shamas is our newest associate to the Gulfcoast Institute of OBGYN. She was born and raised right here in the St Peterburg area. Dr Shamas received engineering degrees from the Georgia Institute of Technology and University of South Florida. She attended medical school at USF and completed her OBGYN residency at the Florida State University. Dr Shamas has a special interest in primary care of women, obstetrics, contraception, as well as minimally invasive and robotic assisted surgery. She is married and has young son. Dr Shamas is an avid and accomplished soccer player.
Wilfredo Lorenzo, MD FACOG Dr Lorenzo has been practicing in St Petersburg for over 20 years. He is from Puerto Rico where he received his his undergraduate and medical school degrees. He also completed his residency training in OBGYN in San Juan, Puerto Rico. Dr Lorenzo has a special interest in primary care of women, contraception, and minimally invasive and robotically assisted gynecologic surgery. Dr Lorenzo enjoys traveling with his wife and children.
